This container freight station is positioned within the Aitken Spence premier logistics complex was aimed to be the Sri Lanka’s largest customs-bonded warehouse.
Commissioned with this vision, Mikaso led the design and construction oversight, ensuring seamless coordination and integration across all project phases.
The station embodies a high standard of modern logistics infrastructure, achieving both strict timeline adherence and compliance with international quality benchmarks
The design elevates functionality, incorporating architectural features that enhance the environmental quality of workspaces, such as cross-ventilation, abundant natural light, a dynamic façade, and fluid movement throughout the facility. Built using an industrialized, pre-engineered steel system, the superstructure integrates prefabricated steel I-sections, galvanized purlins, composite decks, and tension cables, all specified by the local structural engineer. The facility spans four extensive loading bays and includes operational spaces like an office, first-aid room, pump room, electrical panel, and forklift charging points. Inside, a concrete floor and exposed mechanical systems lend an industrial aesthetic, showcasing structural elements like the roof and steel framework, clad in Zinc-Aluminum sheets.
A mezzanine floor is designed using the volume of the building. This mezzanine was created using a composite deck for the floor and the main wall that runs along the length of the mezzanine is constructed using a durra panels. Fixed glass panels have been used to create visual connection with the warehouse activities below for monitoring. The office is designed with modern material to obtain a sleek modern appearance reflecting the pride of the company. It facilities including accommodation for custom officers that will be working for long hours in the facility. Mezzanine includes lobby areas, lunchroom. Office areas with cubicles, meeting rooms and washrooms etc.
