This facility will house laboratories, seminar rooms, lecture theaters, and common areas, offering essential infrastructure for preclinical education to support both current and future student bodies at for the Faculty of Medicine University of Moratuwa.
The complex is aimed at creating an advanced learning environment, equipping medical graduates with technological skills to meet future challenges in their careers
The building’s design features a linear form with a central core offset midway along its length, housing vertical circulation, restrooms, and a lobby across all six floors. This core serves as the connection point for potential future expansions. Interior layouts have been developed with expert consultations to ensure functional flow, while materials are chosen for durability, cost-efficiency, and sustainability. The six-story structure appears slender from the main entrance, and a 2-meter land level difference reduces its visual height.
Facade treatments, including a butterfly roof profile, overhangs, and fins, emphasize select areas and add human-scaled proportions. The entrance is marked by a landscaped terrace with garden lighting, creating a welcoming approach. Sustainable elements, such as shading devices, are incorporated for energy efficiency and to foster a healthy indoor environment.
