Ranweli Eco-Resort is an eco-conscious retreat situated on a 22-acre peninsula where mangrove forests and winding rivers meet the sea. The resort’s architecture is designed to harmonize with the unique natural environment, fully utilizing the serene landscape, which features indigenous flora and fauna, a wide sandy beach on one side, and a river on the other.
Originally a coconut plantation, the design concept preserves the site’s natural heritage by aligning with the existing coconut grid—a pattern formed by the rows of trees.

The bungalows, central areas, and facilities were carefully integrated into the landscape, minimizing tree removal. For each bungalow, only one tree was removed, and its trunk repurposed as columns for the covered walkways, which meander through palm gardens to the resort’s core.
The architecture combines Western comfort with the traditions of Sri Lankan culture, creating a seamless blend of modernity and heritage. The result is a resort that embodies sustainability, cultural integrity, and architectural sensitivity to its environment.
